My skills mostly lean toward creative visual storytelling, namely drawing and writing, as I originally wanted to be a comic book artist. But since I've been "around the block" I'll have some sprinklings of food establishment manager; part-time cook; real estate/ financial newspaper researcher/ data miner; personal computer builder; English language tutor; and film director/storyboard artist. But it's drawing and writing that keeps calling, and I mostly keep answering, albeit always in a part-time capacity.
Beginning with the visual side of my skills, it’s traditional pencil, ink, paper, and sometimes, watercolor. "Above average" would be an approximate rating as those skills are my preferred media of expressing my creativity and originality. Digitally, my Illustrator skill is basic, Photoshop is on an intermediate level while my vectoring in Inkscape is above average. Output from this skill ranged from T-shirt designs, corporate logos, character designs, a few invitations, business cards, and editorial cartoons.
For writing I worked for three years during the '90s as a content manager/writer for a now-defunct local construction supply website. Work demands looped around summarizing articles provided by other construction news sites, producing short construction-related articles and compiling the week's news roundup for the site's weekly newsletter. On the side, I contributed movie and music reviews along with some editor-assigned music-related articles to a couple of local lifestyle magazines and newsletters. The final writing-related job I did was in
Currently I'm employed as a research director for a local real estate company. It's my day job and for the longest time, a secure source of income . Activities here involve informing management and engineering on the latest developments in housing construction and the state of the local and international real estate industry.
I'm now having a creativity itch brought on by the periodic lull of these "pandemic years." Perhaps it's a call to finally shed off the part-time and stretch to longer fuller creative commitments, or it's some misdirected firing of my imagination that just needs to be scratched. Apologies for the swerve in thought. Going back, I'd like to offer my skills in your service. If you've got an idea, we'll try to tempt it, nudge it, kick it, or tickle it laughing into visual, or perhaps written form.
