Company: FRED.ai (AI automation and agents agency)
About the role
We’re FRED.ai. We build automations and “digital workers” for service businesses to remove admin, speed up lead response, and improve follow-up.
We need an experienced n8n / Make.com Automation Engineer who can build reliable workflows fast, with proper error handling, cost controls, and clean documentation. This is not a “quick hack” role. We want production-ready builds that someone else can maintain.
What you will do (core responsibilities)
1) Build automations in n8n and/or Make.com (module-based)
You will build workflows from a clear brief (inputs, outputs, rules, edge cases). Typical builds include:
Webform or webhook ? validate ? enrich ? HubSpot update ? notify team
Missed call / inquiry ? auto triage ? task creation ? follow-up draft (for approval)
Booking ? confirmations/reminders ? no-show workflows
Quote follow-up nudges ? CRM updates ? reporting outputs
2) Reliability and error handling (non-negotiable)
Every workflow must include:
Retry logic where appropriate
Error routes / fallback paths
Alerts
Safe stopping rules (avoid infinite loops)
Clear logs so we can diagnose issues quickly
3) Integration competence
You should be comfortable with:
Webhooks
APIs (REST)
JSON parsing / mapping
Authentication basics (API keys, OAuth where needed)
Connecting common tools (HubSpot, Gmail/Google Sheets, Slack, Calendly, etc.)
4) Documentation and handover discipline
For each module shipped, you must provide:
The exported workflow (n8n JSON) or Make blueprint export
A short Loom walkthrough (5 to 10 minutes)
A simple “How it works” + “How to troubleshoot” note
If it isn’t documented, it isn’t done.
Deliverables (Definition of Done)
A module is only complete when:
Workflow runs successfully end-to-end with test data
Edge cases handled (missing fields, invalid data)
Error handling + alerts implemented
Export file delivered (n8n JSON / Make blueprint)
Loom walkthrough + SOP delivered
Requirements
Must have:
Proven experience building workflows in n8n and/or Make.com
Strong API + webhook experience
Good debugging skills (logs, retries, edge cases)
Clear communication and process discipline
Nice to have:
HubSpot experience (properties, pipelines, lifecycle stages)
Experience building repeatable “templates” for an agency
Basic JavaScript (helpful in n8n)
Working hours and communication
We can start flexible and scale.
Option A (Flexible): 2–4 hours/day, Monday–Friday
Option B (Part-time): 20 hours/week
Option C (Full-time): 40 hours/week (if performance is strong)
Daily update required at the end of your workday:
What you shipped today
Any blockers
What you will do tomorrow
Pay and contract
Start with a paid test task
Then a 2-week trial on hourly or fixed modules
Long-term ongoing work available for strong performers
Please include your expected hourly rate and whether you prefer hourly or fixed-price modules.
Confidentiality (important)
No portfolio use, no sharing screenshots, workflows, client names, or data
No contacting our leads or clients directly
All work is whitelabel and owned by FRED.ai
How to apply (must answer all)
Which platform are you strongest in: n8n or Make.com (or both)?
Share an example of a workflow you built (describe it clearly, no confidential info).
How do you design error handling and alerts?
Have you worked with HubSpot API or HubSpot workflows?
Confirm you can provide exports + Loom + SOP for every module.
Paid test task (required, paid, max 2 hours)
We will pay for this test.
Task: Build a small workflow that:
Receives a webhook
Validates required fields and filters bad inputs
Writes to Google Sheets
