I am looking for a talented book editor and story development assistant based in the Philippines to help me finish and prepare a YA/adult crossover sci-fi series for self-publishing.
The first four books are already about 50–75% written. I need help moving them from draft form to finished manuscripts ready for publication. This may begin as part-time or project-based work, with the possibility of becoming full-time after the books move closer to press.
The series is about two twin worlds and the different choices each world makes. It is written for young readers and adult crossover readers, especially girls and young women around the world: White, Beige, Tan, Brown, and Black. The story is about survival, leadership, love, grief, courage, women, children, power, and hope.
This is not just proofreading. I need someone who can help with story, structure, clarity, and finishing.
Responsibilities may include:
Reading chapters and giving clear feedback
Helping organize scenes, chapters, and book structure
Pointing out where YA readers may get confused
Giving input on pacing, character, clarity, and emotional flow
Helping shape final chapters
Tracking continuity across the first four books
Helping prepare manuscripts for self-publishing
Researching translation options for at least six languages
Researching publishing, formatting, and international distribution outlets
Protecting the author’s voice while making the books stronger
The ideal candidate:
Has excellent English reading and editing skills
Has experience with fiction, YA, sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, or long-form writing
Understands what keeps young readers interested
Can give honest but kind feedback
Can help with structure, not just grammar
Is organized, reliable, and comfortable with a large creative project
Has helped writers, authors, students, or creators finish written work
Can do online research for self-publishing, translation, and global book markets
A marketing expert may be hired later. For now, this role is focused on editing, structure, completion, self-publishing preparation, and translation research.
To apply, please send:
A short introduction
Your editing, writing, or publishing experience
Any books, manuscripts, blogs, or creative projects you have helped with
Your experience with YA, sci-fi, fantasy, or multicultural stories
Your hourly rate or project rate
Your weekly availability
Writing samples and a short editing exercise may be requested during the second interview.
I am looking for someone thoughtful, honest, organized, and creative who can become a trusted partner in helping bring this series to readers around the world.
