Technical Layout Designer (Catalogues, Datasheets & Manuals | PDF Rebuild ? Ongoing Maintenance | Remote, Part-Time)
We are looking for a detail-focused Technical Layout Designer to create product catalogues/brochures, and to recreate existing product catalogues, datasheets, and manuals from PDF and Word files into fully editable templates. The role also includes ongoing updates and maintenance.
You will be using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Canva, Affinity Publisher, or similar layout/design software. (Software is flexible — see below.)
This is a long-term, part-time remote role with a heavier workload during the initial rebuild phase, followed by 1–2 hours per week of ongoing maintenance work.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for rebuilding existing technical documents from PDF format into structured, editable templates.
This includes:
Product catalogues
Technical datasheets
Instruction manuals
The initial phase will involve recreating existing documents from PDF/Word files into editable templates, while simultaneously using these templates to produce targeted, sales-focused brochures for specific applications (for example, a spray booth product catalogue).
This means you will be building the underlying template system as part of real, practical brochure and catalogue production, ensuring the structure works for actual sales materials from the outset.
Once this foundation is established, the role transitions into ongoing maintenance work of approximately 1–2 hours per week, consisting of updates, revisions, and small additions as required.
This role is ideal for someone experienced in structured, detail-heavy documentation work where accuracy and consistency are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Initial phase (higher workload):
Recreate catalogues, datasheets, and manuals from PDF/Word files into editable templates
Build consistent, reusable layout systems across all document types
Ensure high accuracy in layout reproduction (spacing, typography, alignment, structure)
Convert technical product data into clean, structured formats
Standardise formatting across multiple document types
Ongoing phase (1–2 hours per week):
Update catalogues, datasheets, and manuals as product information changes
Add new products or technical updates into existing templates
Maintain consistency across all documentation versions
Produce print-ready and digital PDF outputs
Requirements
Experience recreating or rebuilding structured documents from PDF or print
Strong attention to detail (especially technical, numerical, and formatting accuracy)
Ability to follow and replicate existing layouts precisely
Strong understanding of layout systems, grids, and document structure
Comfortable working with structured data (e.g. Excel or similar)
Ability to work independently and maintain consistency across multiple document types

Nice to Have
Experience with technical, industrial, engineering, or manufacturing documentation
Experience in production design, pre-press, or technical publishing
Familiarity with datasheets or instruction/manual formatting standards

Experience working with large multi-page document sets

Important Note
This role is primarily focused on accurate reconstruction of existing technical documents from PDF, including supplier brochures being converted into company-branded catalogues. The priority is precision, consistency, and reliable template building across catalogues, datasheets, and manuals.
In some cases, you will also be required to create targeted, industry-specific catalogues from existing materials. For example, developing a spray booth catalogue by adapting an existing catalogue template and selecting relevant products for that application. This involves structuring and presenting existing product data in a clear, sales-focused format while maintaining consistency with our branding and documentation standards.
