## Overview

We are looking for an experienced **BI Developer** to support a large-scale BI migration and ongoing analytics development. This role sits at the intersection of **data engineering, analytics engineering, and BI development**, with a focus on moving business logic out of Tableau and into governed Snowflake models.

You will work closely with BI developers, data engineers, and stakeholders to productionalize analytics logic, improve data sources, and maintain high-quality Tableau dashboards.

This role involves a mix of:

* Snowflake SQL development
* View creation and semantic layer design
* Git-based data development workflows
* Tableau dashboard development and maintenance
* Data validation and migration work

---

# Responsibilities

### Data Modeling & Snowflake Development

* Convert Tableau Custom SQL into governed Snowflake views
* Design and implement reporting-layer views and semantic models
* Optimize queries and Snowflake performance
* Maintain clear, reusable SQL models for analytics consumption
* Validate data accuracy across legacy and migrated sources

### Data Source Migration

* Assist with BI migrations and data source standardization
* Compare datasets using SQL to validate migration correctness
* Identify schema mismatches, missing fields, and logic differences
* Document data lineage and transformation logic

### Tableau Development

* Build and maintain Tableau dashboards
* Replace legacy data sources with optimized Snowflake views
* Refactor workbooks to remove embedded SQL logic
* Implement best practices for performance and maintainability

### Version Control & Deployment

* Manage SQL models and views through Git workflows
* Submit and review pull requests for data model changes
* Participate in CI/CD workflows for analytics code deployment
* Maintain documentation of data models and reporting logic

### Collaboration

* Work closely with BI developers, analytics engineers, and stakeholders
* Participate in technical design discussions for new data models
* Provide recommendations for improving data architecture
* Support ongoing analytics requests across business teams

---

# Required Skills

### Core Technical Skills

* Strong **SQL (Snowflake preferred)**

* Tableau development experience
* Git-based development workflows
* Experience validating datasets and debugging data discrepancies

### Data Engineering / Analytics Engineering

* Experience moving logic from BI tools into the warehouse
* Understanding of data modeling concepts (facts, dimensions, grain)
* Ability to optimize SQL for performance and maintainability
* Experience with data warehouse environments (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)

### BI Development

* Tableau data source management
* Dashboard performance optimization
* Workbook refactoring and migration
* Understanding of Tableau extracts vs live connections

---

# Nice-to-Have Skills

* dbt experience
* Experience migrating BI systems or data sources
* Familiarity with marketing, finance, or product analytics datasets
* Experience building semantic layers or data marts
* Airflow or orchestration familiarity

# What Success Looks Like

Within the first 90 days, you will:

* Help complete ongoing BI data source migrations
* Productionalize several Snowflake views replacing Tableau Custom SQL
* Improve performance and maintainability of existing dashboards
* Establish repeatable patterns for analytics development in Snowflake

---

# Ideal Candidate

You are someone who:

* Is equally comfortable writing complex SQL and building Tableau dashboards
* Understands how BI tools interact with data warehouses
* Can translate messy analytics logic into clean, reusable data models
* Enjoys improving data systems and reducing technical debt
* Works independently and communicates clearly with both engineers and analysts

---

# Engagement Type

Flexible:

* Contract (preferred for migration support)
