JOB OVERVIEW

About us:

Tomorrow Studios is a Shopify design and implementation studio based in British Columbia, Canada. We help ecommerce brands design, migrate, launch, and improve Shopify stores.

Our work includes Shopify website design, theme customization, platform migrations, app configuration, Shopify POS, B2B commerce, and ongoing ecommerce support.

We are a small team with high standards for design quality, communication, and practical execution.

About the role:

We are looking for a Shopify-focused ecommerce web designer who can create polished, practical, conversion-minded website designs in Figma.

This is not a generic graphic design role, and it is not primarily a development role.

The ideal candidate understands ecommerce websites, product pages, collection pages, homepage structure, mobile design, content hierarchy, and how Shopify themes are built using sections, blocks, templates, metafields, and app integrations.

You should be able to design attractive websites that are realistic to build within Shopify theme frameworks.

You will work closely with our team and developers, turning briefs into clear, buildable designs, so fast communication and a tight feedback loop matter as much as the work itself.

Responsibilities:

1. Design Shopify website pages and sections in Figma
2. Create homepage, collection page, product page, cart, about, FAQ, landing page, and content page designs
3. Design within the constraints of Shopify themes and theme frameworks
4. Create mobile-first, responsive layouts
5. Organize Figma files clearly for developer handoff
6. Design reusable sections and components that can be implemented in Shopify
7. Work from client briefs, brand assets, reference sites, product catalogues, and internal direction
8. Support revisions based on client and team feedback
9. Identify when a design can be built with native theme settings versus when custom development may be required

Required skills:

1. Strong Figma skills
2. Experience designing Shopify stores
3. Experience with Shopify themes such as Dawn, Horizon, Impulse, Prestige, Enterprise, or similar themes
4. Proven ecommerce website design experience, backed by a portfolio
5. Solid understanding of Shopify store structure (sections, blocks, templates, metafields)
6. Excellent mobile-first design ability
7. Good taste in typography, spacing, layout, and visual hierarchy
8. Ability to design practical, buildable layouts
9. Clear written English and strong attention to detail

Nice to have:
1. Basic understanding of Liquid, HTML, CSS, and responsive design
2. Awareness of accessibility basics, such as contrast, hierarchy, and alt text
3. Experience with CRO, product pages, collection filtering, mega menus, bundles, gift guides, or landing pages
4. Experience preparing developer handoff notes
5. Experience using AI tools thoughtfully in the design process

AI usage:

We are an AI-enabled business, and thoughtful AI usage is encouraged.

We are interested in designers who use AI to improve their thinking, speed, research, documentation, creative exploration, and design process. We are not looking for generic AI-generated applications.

How to apply:

Start your reply with the name of an ecommerce store whose design you admire, and one line on why. Then please include the following:

- A link to your portfolio.
- Two ecommerce or Shopify designs you are proud of. Client work, a concept, or a personal project is fine. For each one, briefly explain:

1. what the project was
2. what your role was
3. what design problem you were solving
4. what you would improve if you designed it again today

- Your AI workflow example using this format:

1. Tool used:
2. Task:
3. How AI helped:
4. How you reviewed or improved the output:
5. Final result:

- Choose one product page from any live Shopify store, link it, and briefly explain one thing you think works well and one thing you would improve.
- Your expected hourly or monthly rate, weekly availability, and working hours in your local time zone.

Hiring process:

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short paid design exercise and a 30-minute call, so we can see how you work and you can learn more about us.

Applications that are generic, skip the opening line, do not include ecommerce design examples, or do not answer the application questions will not be prioritized.
