Senior Shopify Developer

About the Role
We're looking for a senior-level Shopify Developer who has built stores from the ground up and can operate without hand-holding. You'll work across multiple client Shopify stores, owning full builds, theme development, technical SEO, and site audits, while mentoring a junior developer on the team.

This isn't a ticket-taker role. We need someone who can look at a project, identify what needs to happen, and execute it. You'll be embedded in a fast-moving digital marketing agency, so you'll need to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and deliver clean work across multiple accounts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Full Store Builds & Theme Development
Lead end-to-end Shopify store builds from initial setup through launch
Architect and develop custom themes from scratch or build on top of existing themes (Dawn, Impulse, Prestige, etc.)
Write clean, maintainable Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Build complex custom sections, blocks, and templates in Online Store 2.0
Implement advanced metafield and metaobject structures for dynamic content
Optimize for performance: Core Web Vitals, lazy loading, asset compression, render-blocking fixes
Handle migrations from other platforms (WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Squarespace) to Shopify

Content & Store Management
Manage product catalogs, collections, and content across multiple client stores
Set up and maintain navigation, banners, and merchandising logic
Execute bulk operations via CSV, Shopify admin, or scripting
Build and maintain custom page templates for campaigns, landing pages, and evergreen content

App Installation & Integrations
Evaluate, install, and configure Shopify apps with a critical eye (knowing when NOT to add an app matters)
Implement and QA tracking stacks: GTM, GA4, Meta Pixel, TikTok, and others
Set up email/SMS integrations (Klaviyo, Postscript, etc.) including list sync and event triggers
Troubleshoot broken integrations, misfiring pixels, and third-party conflicts

SEO (On-Page & Technical)
Own technical SEO across client stores: crawlability, indexation, site speed, structured data
Implement and maintain schema markup (Product, BreadcrumbList, Organization, FAQPage)
Manage redirect strategies, canonical tags, hreflang, and URL architecture
Conduct keyword-informed on-page optimization across product, collection, and content pages
Set up and monitor Google Search Console; identify and resolve coverage and performance issues

Site Audits & Strategy
Conduct comprehensive audits covering technical health, UX, conversion friction, and SEO
Deliver clear, prioritized written reports that clients and internal teams can act on
Identify issues before they're raised — proactive QA is part of the job
Provide build recommendations and scoping input on new client projects

Mentorship
Support and unblock a junior developer on the team
Review code and provide constructive feedback
Help establish repeatable processes and documentation for common tasks

REQUIREMENTS:
4+ years of hands-on Shopify development experience
Portfolio of 5+ complete store builds you can speak to in detail
Deep proficiency in Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Strong command of Online Store 2.0 architecture (sections, blocks, schema.json)
Experience managing and building on multiple client stores simultaneously
Solid technical SEO foundation — you know how Shopify's URL structure, canonical behavior, and crawl budget work
Experience implementing full tracking stacks (GTM + GA4 + ad pixels)
Strong written English — you'll be writing audit reports and communicating directly with an agency team

PREFERRED::
Shopify Plus experience (scripts, checkout extensibility, B2B)
Platform migration experience (WooCommerce ? Shopify, etc.)
Klaviyo development experience beyond basic installation
Familiarity with Shopify CLI and theme version control via Git
Canva or basic graphic editing skills for asset prep
