Senior Data Scientist – Inventory Optimization & Demand Forecasting
Location: Remote
Job Type: Part-time
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist with expertise in Snowflake and Snowpark to develop and deploy machine learning models for optimizing inventory management, demand forecasting, and pricing strategies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing data-driven solutions that enhance SKU performance tracking, reduce unhealthy inventory, and improve clearance strategies.
This role requires strong proficiency in Snowflake, Snowpark, dbt, and machine learning deployment within cloud data environments. You will collaborate closely with product, supply chain, and data engineering teams to build scalable, AI-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Learning & Predictive Modeling
Develop models to classify SKU health (Healthy, At-Risk, Unhealthy) based on sales performance, demand trends, and inventory levels.
Build time series forecasting models (ARIMA, Prophet, LSTM) using Snowpark and Python for SKU demand prediction.
Implement price elasticity models to optimize markdown strategies and maximize revenue.
Develop classification and anomaly detection models to provide early warnings for slow-moving and overstocked SKUs.
Create recommendation models to determine whether SKUs should be sold, liquidated, or returned to vendors.
2. Snowflake & Snowpark-Based Data Engineering
Use Snowpark to build and execute machine learning models directly within Snowflake’s data warehouse.
Develop SKU similarity models using clustering (K-Means, DBSCAN) and NLP techniques (TF-IDF, Word2Vec) within Snowflake/Snowpark.
Engineer features from structured and unstructured data stored in Snowflake to enhance forecasting accuracy.
Optimize SQL queries and Python UDFs (User-Defined Functions) using Snowflake’s ML capabilities.
3. Model Deployment & Performance Monitoring
Deploy machine learning models using Snowpark ML, dbt, and Snowflake-native solutions.
Implement CI/CD pipelines for machine learning model training, evaluation, and deployment within Snowflake.
Design dashboards and reporting tools to visualize model performance and generate actionable insights.
Automate model retraining workflows and monitor real-time predictions within the Snowflake ecosystem.
4. Business Impact & Collaboration
Partner with product managers, merchants, and supply chain teams to translate business needs into Snowflake-based ML solutions.
Provide data-driven recommendations for reducing inventory costs, optimizing demand planning, and improving clearance strategies.
Conduct A/B testing and impact analysis to measure the effectiveness of pricing and inventory interventions.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or predictive analytics.
Mandatory expertise in Snowflake, Snowpark, and dbt for building and deploying machine learning models.
Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Experience with time series forecasting, classification models, anomaly detection, and clustering.
Hands-on experience with big data processing and working with structured/unstructured datasets.
Experience in model deployment, MLOps, and integrating models into business workflows using Snowflake.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in inventory management, supply chain analytics, retail analytics, or demand forecasting.
Knowledge of price optimization, SKU lifecycle modeling, and predictive maintenance.
Familiarity with NLP and product similarity modeling.
Strong communication skills with experience presenting insights to non-technical stakeholders.
