JOB OVERVIEW

Good work should win the work.

Rootl helps trades and local service businesses get found, picked and booked online. We exist because good businesses lose to worse ones every day. Not because they're worse at the job, but because the worse ones got found first.

It started with advice from an upstairs window to a window cleaner halfway up a ladder. By 2036 we want Rootl to be the UK's most trusted local search company for trades, with our first US hub open.

We're building the team that gets us there. Want a seat on the bus?

WHAT WE DO
We help trades and local service businesses get found on Google, and inside the AI tools their next customer is already searching with: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. That is the job. We work with plumbers, gas engineers, roofers, joiners, plasterers, drainage crews, window firms, waste and pest control, architects, developers and taxi firms. We run three services, Essentials, Growth and Accelerator, all pointed at one thing: putting our client in front of the customer who is already searching.

THE ROLE, IN ONE LINE
You own how we deliver. You run our content production from brief to published page across every client, keeping the quality high and the pipeline moving.

READ THIS TWICE: THIS IS NOT A WRITING JOB
Our AI tools do the heavy drafting. We are not looking for a writer with flair. We need someone who can take a draft and make it genuinely client-ready. That means catching errors, tightening the copy, fixing the SEO, and making sure nothing wrong or sloppy ever reaches a client. The detail is the deliverable.

A STRAIGHT WORD ABOUT THIS ROLE
This is a brand new seat, and we are building it as we go. The founder needs to step out of the day to day and focus on where Rootl is heading and how we get there. That leaves a real gap, and it is yours to fill.

So be clear on what you are walking into. We are moving fast and we do not have every answer yet. Some weeks will feel like organised chaos. This role exists to bring order to it. If that excites you rather than worries you, and you are the sort who turns chaos into a clean, repeatable system, this is your seat. It is a rocket ship, and we want you on board.

WHY YOU'D WANT THIS SEAT
- A small, focused team built around getting one job done brilliantly. James runs sales and strategy. Our web developer builds the sites. You own the SEO content production system end to end. Three people, three clear lanes, no politics, no meetings about meetings.
- Real responsibility from day one. This is not a six-month shadow-the-founder role.
- The work is simple by design. It is a series of checklists. We want someone who finds that energising, not boring.
- You will not be slotted into someone else's process. You will write the process, recorded with the founder and turned into the Blueprints and SOPs every future Rootl hire is trained on.
- Real long-term upside for the person who stays the course. We will talk that through properly once you are established.
- Local search is shifting under everyone's feet right now. We are moving fast on it, and you will be at the front.
- We hire the right person, not the perfect person. Every candidate is DISC profiled, because the seat has to fit how we work.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Running our content agent and editing its output to a publish-ready standard
- Quality checking every page before it goes ---------- facts, spelling, grammar, British English, tone, and on-page SEO
- Working from SEO briefs and making sure each page does the job it is meant to do
- Managing our web developer: answering their questions, handing over finished pages, keeping the build on track
- Spotting local SEO improvements (Google Business Profile, on-page, internal links) and flagging them
- Owning the schedule: what is due, for which client, by when, and hitting it
- Running your part of our weekly tea ---------- eting
- Taking our SOPs and making the process tighter over time

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- You spot a wrong town or city name, a missing full stop, or a clumsy sentence from a mile off. Detail is your thing.
- You would rather follow a proven checklist and run it well than reinvent the wheel each time.
- You take pride in doing similar work to a high standard, week in, week out.
- You check your own work before anyone else sees it. Things do not slip past you.
- You can take an SOP and run with it without being chased.
- You want a long-term home where you can own something, not a stepping stone.
- Excellent written British English. We will test this.
- Solid on-page SEO: titles, meta descriptions, headings, internal links, alt text, basic schema.
- Comfortable editing AI-written content: cutting repetition, fixing flat phrasing, removing the AI tells, and fact-checking.

Nice to have, not essential:
- Local SEO or Google Business Profile experience
- Experience optimising content to get picked up by AI answers (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity)
- WordPress

TOOLS YOU WILL USE
Our content agent, WordPress, Google Workspace, Local Dominator, BrightLocal, and AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. Training and SOPs provided. You do not need every tool on day one, but you do need to learn fast.

HOURS, PAY AND HOW IT WORKS
- Part-time to start, around 10 to 15 hours a week, paid at $8 USD an hour.
- We start with a short unpaid test task so we can see how you work. If it goes well, you move onto a two-week paid trial, paid for the hours you actually work.
- Once you pass the trial, we guarantee 40 hours a month as a floor, so there is always a baseline you can count on. In practice you will usually do more. Your hours and your rate both grow as you prove yourself and as we sign more clients, and the aim is to build this into a full-time seat for the right person.
- If a client ever leaves and the work drops, we give you at least one week's written notice of any change to your hours.
- Paid weekly for your first month, then monthly after that, by Wise.
- You track your time in Toggl. Your tracked hours are what you invoice, so it stays clear and fair on both sides.
- Every Monday, without fail, we run a 30 minute tea ---------- eting using the LIONS sheet. It is a simple one-page worksheet covering five things: Last week, Issues, Opportunities, the Next seven days, and Successes. You fill yours in and come ready to run your part. If you are ever away, you still send your completed sheet before the meeting. It keeps us aligned and the work on track.
- We work UK hours, 9:00 to 4:30. At least half your hours each week need to fall inside that window so we can work together properly. For you in the Philippines that is roughly 4pm to 11:30pm, so an evening pattern fits well.
- This is an independent contractor role on a proper written agreement covering confidentiality, client data, and how we pay you. You look after your own taxes in the Philippines, and you provide your own computer, reliable internet, and a quiet place to work.
- Four weeks' notice on either side if it is ever not working out.

HOW TO APPLY
- Start your application with the phrase "I spotted it" so we know you have read this far.
- Tell us, in a few lines, about a time you caught a mistake everyone else had missed.
- Share any examples of editing, proofreading, or SEO content work you are proud of.
- If you get through this first stage, we will send you a short test task: a real page with a few errors planted in it, for you to fix and explain. This first task is unpaid and the same for everyone. If it goes well, the paid trial follows.

A LAST WORD
We are not the biggest name out there, and we are not trying to be. We are here to show what local search looks like when it is done properly, and we want to be the best in the country at it. We are looking for the person who helps us get there. If you have read this far and something here lit you up, that is a good sign. We read every application that opens the right way. Show us why it should be you.
