The Mission
We are looking for a "Reliability-First" Engineer to help us build and maintain robust backend data pipelines. We aren't looking for someone who just writes scripts that work on the "happy path." We need an engineer who cares deeply about what happens when things fail, how the code is maintained over time, and how data moves through the system with absolute integrity.
In this role, you will work directly with our Lead Data Engineer. This is a unique opportunity for a disciplined developer to own meaningful tasks while receiving direct mentorship in a high-stakes data environment.
What You’ll Do
• Build for Failure: Design and implement data pipelines with robust error handling, validation, and logging to ensure the system is "self-healing" or, at the very least, easy to debug.
• Maintain Code Quality: Write clean, readable, and typed Python code that your teammates (and your future self) will find easy to understand and modify.
• Own the Logic: Manage backend data flows using modern Python practices, ensuring that small mistakes don't create massive downstream issues.
• Test the Edge Cases: Write meaningful tests that verify system behavior under pressure and in failure states, not just for the successful outcomes.
• Collaborate Directly: Act as the right hand to our Lead Data Engineer, providing status updates, communicating blockers early, and taking full ownership of assigned tasks.
Technical Requirements
• Python Fundamentals: Deep understanding of functions, classes, data structures, and async/await. You should know not just how to use them, but why they are the right choice for a given problem.
• The Engineer’s Mindset: * Proper Typing: You use type hinting to make code self-documenting and reliable.
o Intentional Error Handling: You don't blindly suppress errors; you handle them with purpose.
o Logging & Debugging: You add useful logs and can systematically hunt down the root cause of an issue.
• Clean Architecture: A commitment to naming conventions, reasonable code structure, and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
• Testing Discipline: Experience showing you know how to test important behavior and complex edge cases.
The Profile We Are Looking For
• The "Accountability" Factor: You take full responsibility for your tasks. If a mistake happens, you’re honest about it, you fix it, and you learn from it.
• Problem-Solving Logic: You don't just "Google and Copy." You seek to understand the "why" behind the code and the root cause of the bug.
• Communication: You can explain technical problems clearly and you understand that "staying silent" is the biggest blocker in a remote environment.
• Initiative & Curiosity: You look beyond the immediate ticket. You ask: "How could this flow be more reliable? Is there a better way to handle this validation?"
• Teachable: You accept feedback as a tool for growth and actively look for ways to improve your craft.
Schedule & Flexibility
• This is a part-time role offering 10 to 25 hours per week.
• We offer a flexible schedule, but you must have some overlap with our Lead Data Engineer (on PHT timezone) for collaboration and feedback loops.
• Future Potential: We are looking for a long-term partner. For the right candidate, this role has a clear path toward a full-time position as our data infrastructure grows.
