JOB OVERVIEW

ABOUT THE ROLE + BUSINESS!

I run a design studio in Sydney working across music industry branding, web design , cover art, merch, and wedding/event stationery + more. I've got more work than hands right now, and I'm looking for a production designer who can become my right hand. You won't be inventing concepts from scratch. I bring the direction and the creative. What I need is someone who takes my work and runs it cleanly across everything it needs to become.

The studio runs across two sides: graphic design (branding, logos, web, cover art, merch) and wedding / event stationery (menus, signage, place cards, full suites, Canva sites etc.), so you'd be touching a real mix of work. Take a look at what I do at ---------- ---------- on Instagram] for a general feel. That's just a taster, as I work with lots of clients across music, hospitality, retail, beauty and more.

WHAT YOU'D ACTUALLY BE DOING

You'd be working across both sides of the studio, so this is a real mix of digital and print, branding and stationery.

~ Taking a design (say a poster) and adapting it into multiple assets: social square, story 9:16, banner, web sizes. Done properly, with real attention to layout and hierarchy at each ratio, not just squashing it to fit.
~ File prep for print, mostly on the stationery side: menus, signage, place cards, full suites. Setting up files correctly for print (bleed, crop marks, CMYK, correct dimensions) and getting them press-ready.
~ Building and styling Canva RSVP websites for events, clean, on-brand, and matching the stationery suite.
~ Helping refine and execute logo concepts I bring you. Cleaning vectors, building variations, testing at different sizes, tightening curves.
~ Vectorising.
~ File prep and organisation. Keeping my design library tidy and consistent.
~ General design work across both businesses as we build a rhythm and confidence.

***A quick note on AI: I'm not against it as a little helper along the way! But the design itself has to come from you and your skills, not from AI doing the heavy lifting. I can always tell the difference. I'll also always need working files I can open and edit, so the real work has to be there underneath.***

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR

~ Strong in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. This is non-negotiable, you live in these every day.
~ Comfortable in Canva too, especially for the RSVP websites and quick-turnaround pieces.
~ A genuinely good eye for layout and type. You notice when something's off.
~ You get aesthetic direction quickly. My studio has a specific look, and you don't need to design in that style yourself, but you do need to see it and stay true to it when you adapt my work!
~ Fast and reliable with communication. I hate chasing people, and you need to speak and write English well.
~ You follow direction well, but you're not a robot. You'll flag it if something looks wrong!
~ Clean, organised file habits.
~ You're open to collaboration and communication. I'm always up for ideas and suggestions on the design work, so I want someone who'll actually engage!

TO APPLY, SEND ME:

1. Your portfolio! A link please, not attachments.
2. In a line or two, tell me what kind of design work you most enjoy and why. I'd love to get a feel for you.
3. Start your message with the word "xplique" so I know you actually read this. I'll be deleting any that don't, sorry!

If you've read this far and it sounds like you, get in touch! I'm genuinely looking for my right-hand person, and if we work out, this becomes long-term and full-time. I'd love to build the studio out with the right someone.
