Role Overview
We are looking for a full-time Politics Writer to join our editorial team. This person must be deeply versed in Philippine politics, able to break down complex issues with truth, clarity, and context, while staying true to PGMN’s bold and conversational voice. They will work closely with editors, anchors, and content teams to shape timely and impactful political coverage that sparks national conversation. Must have experience in fast paced digital media teams. Must be able to take critical and direct feedback.
Key Responsibilities
- Report and write daily/weekly political news, features, and op-eds with accuracy, integrity, and speed.
- Pitch original angles and story ideas that cut through the noise and reflect PGMN’s editorial identity.
- Conduct in-depth research, interviews, and fact-checking for high-quality journalism.
- Adapt writing for multiple formats: long-form articles, short explainers, social media posts, and video scripts.
- Collaborate with anchors and editors to develop compelling narratives for political coverage.
- Stay on top of breaking news, current events, and policy developments in the Philippines.
- Uphold journalistic ethics and ensure all reporting is balanced, verified, and culturally sensitive.
Requirements
- Background in Journalism, Political Science, Communications, or related field (degree or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of Philippine politics, governance, and media landscape.
- At least 2–3 years of newsroom, political reporting, or editorial experience preferred.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in English and Filipino.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- SEO, digital publishing, and social-first writing experience is a plus.
- Comfortable using AI tools for support, but grounded in fact-based, original reporting.
