Job Title: Digital Technician - Photo Management Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Digital Technician with knowledge in photo management and digital asset management (DAM) systems to join our team at Bay City News. We are a regional news wire covering the greater San Francisco Bay Area and also have two WordPress-based news websites. This is a remote, full-time job, reporting to our Photo Editor but working with multiple editors, reporters and web producers on our team of about 25.

The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge or PhotoMechanic, Wordpress, and familiarity with AP style guidelines. The primary responsibilities of this role include population and maintenance of our DAM system using PhotoShelter, as well as the upkeep of our Wordpress-based photo library. Key responsibilities include:

Digital Asset Management (DAM) Population:

- Efficiently populate the DAM system, utilizing PhotoShelter, with high-quality digital assets such as images, graphics, and videos.

- Organize assets according to established taxonomy, ensuring ease of search and retrieval.

- Implement metadata tagging and keywording strategies to enhance asset discoverability.

DAM Maintenance and Administration:

- Regularly maintain and update the DAM system to ensure accurate and up-to-date asset information.

- Perform routine system checks to verify functionality and troubleshoot any technical issues.

- Collaborate with IT and other relevant stakeholders to optimize DAM system performance and integration with other tools or platforms.

Wordpress Photo Library Maintenance:

- Manage and maintain our Wordpress-based photo library, ensuring it reflects the latest content and adheres to organizational standards.

- Upload, organize, and categorize images within the Wordpress library, maintaining consistency in naming conventions and file structures.

- Monitor library usage and performance, implementing improvements as needed to enhance user experience and accessibility.

Image Editing and Enhancement:

- Utilize Adobe Photoshop to perform basic image editing tasks such as cropping, resizing, and color correction.

- Ensure that images meet quality standards and adhere to brand guidelines before being uploaded to the DAM system or Wordpress library.

Compliance with AP Style Guidelines:

- Apply AP style guidelines to written content accompanying images, ensuring consistency and accuracy in captions, descriptions, and metadata.

- Maintain awareness of updates or changes to AP style rules and incorporate them into daily practices as needed.

Qualifications:

- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, or PhotoMechanic for image editing and management.

- Experience working with DAM systems, preferably PhotoShelter, and Wordpress-based platforms.

- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, particularly in metadata management and taxonomy creation.

- Familiarity with AP style guidelines and ability to apply them effectively in written content.

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Proactive problem-solving abilities and a willingness to adapt to evolving technology and workflow requirements.
