BarkHop Studio, a studio dog photography brand specializing in storytelling-focused, high-end fine art portraits of dogs, is seeking a talented, meticulous freelance Virtual Assistant for advanced photo editing.
This is a remote, contract position with a flexible, project-based workload. Because we pride ourselves on exceptional quality and an incredible client experience, an extreme eye for detail is non-negotiable. Please read this entire listing carefully and follow the application instructions exactly.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Photo Editing & Retouching: Meticulously removing leashes, collars, owners, and any studio distractions in Adobe Photoshop to create a clean, high-end fine art look.
Style Matching: Editing images to seamlessly match the specific vibrant, storytelling aesthetic of BarkHop Studio.
Print & Digital Preparation: Prepping large RAW files for both professional heirloom print production and digital delivery.
Requirements:
Proven Experience: Demonstrated expertise with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom (specifically with portraiture or animal subjects).
Software & Setup: Active access to your own licensed, legal copies of Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
High-Speed Tech: A reliable, lightning-fast internet connection capable of smoothly transferring large files and RAW images.
Detail expectations: An uncompromising commitment to precision, consistency, and strict deadlines.
Communication: Flawless written English communication skills.
What We Are Not Looking For
Individuals who struggle with time management or rigid deadlines.
Candidates using unlicensed or other editing software.
Editors who rush through details (we notice the stray hairs and missed leash clips!).
Anyone looking for a rigid, guaranteed 9-to-5 weekly hourly commitment.
Workload & Schedule
This is a freelance, independent contractor position with no set weekly hours. The workload fluctuates entirely based on our client booking calendar and upcoming fine-art book projects. Some weeks may be incredibly quiet, while others will require a swift turnaround.
Our peak busy seasons typically run through Spring (April–June) and Fall (September–November). You must be flexible and highly responsive during these windows.
How to Apply
To be considered for a spot on our creative team, you must follow these instructions down to the letter:
Subject Line: Format your application
The Icebreaker: Begin your message by answering this exact question: What is your favorite dog breed and why?
The Pitch: Below your answer, include a brief cover letter detailing how you meet our technical requirements.
Tech Check: Explicitly confirm that you have a strong, reliable, high-speed internet connection and your own licensed Adobe software.
The Proof: Include a link to your portfolio or attach 2–3 perfect examples of your photo editing work. Your portfolio must feature animal or portrait photography. Applications containing only people, landscape, architecture, or product work will not be reviewed. Before-and-after retouching examples are requested.
Note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a brief paid trial edit to assess skill level, style matching, and attention to detail. A response turn-around within 24–48 hours is expected.
If all of that sounds like work you’re agreeable to, I can't wait to see your work!
