We’re looking for a highly skilled Patent Agent / Drafter (Software) with expertise in software patents to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in drafting and filing Canadian and US patents for software applications. A passion for protecting intellectual property is essential. We need a self-motivated professional who can work independently, manage tasks with minimal supervision, and respond promptly to direction.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patent Drafting & Filing: Collaborate with our development teams to draft detailed and effective patent applications for our software solutions. Assist in the submission and filing process for Canadian and US patents, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.

Legal Research & Compliance: Stay current with changes in patent laws in both Canada and the US. Conduct thorough research to support patent filings and ensure ongoing compliance with relevant regulations.

Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with legal, development, and other internal teams to gather the information necessary for patent applications. Communicate confidently and professionally with stakeholders, providing timely updates on progress.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: 3+ years of experience in patent drafting, filing, and docketing for software applications in both Canada and the US.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of software development principles and technologies.
Legal Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US patent laws and procedures. Experience in handling patent, copyright, and trademark cases is a plus.
Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of the patent process.
Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
Self-Motivation: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage your time effectively.


PREFERRED SKILLS :
Experience as a Patent Attorney/Agent is an asset.
Proficiency in using legal research tools and patent filing software.


WORK SCHEDULE/ WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT/ SETUP REQUIREMENTS:?
Part-time position, approximately 10-20 hours per week.
Be available between the hours of 9 AM to 11 AM or 7PM – 10 PM Toronto Time
Have a dedicated workspace, computer and reliable internet access.
