We are seeking a motivated and experienced Part-Time Linux Systems Administrator with a strong interest in automation to support and enhance our diverse IT infrastructure. This is a flexible, remote, hourly position perfect for someone who enjoys tackling various technical challenges and improving system efficiency.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Administering, maintaining, and optimizing Linux-based servers and services across various distributions.
- Developing and implementing automation solutions for system provisioning, configuration management, application deployment, and operational tasks.
- Managing and configuring web servers, reverse proxies, and related infrastructure components.
- Implementing and maintaining security best practices, including network security, user access control, and data encryption (e.g., TLS/SSL).
- Working with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) for application deployment and environment management.
- Setting up and managing monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure system health and performance.
- Troubleshooting complex system and network issues, identifying root causes, and implementing robust solutions.
- Creating and maintaining clear technical documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.

What We're Looking For:
- Solid experience in Linux system administration (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL, or others).
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl) for automation.
- Proven experience with configuration management and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform).
- Practical experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
- Proficiency in managing web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx) and reverse proxies.
- Good understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls).
- Knowledge of security principles and best practices for server hardening and secure communications.
- Experience with system and application monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Good communication skills and a commitment to documenting work.
