JOB OVERVIEW

This is a very challenging position. Overall, paralegals are responsible for all aspects of the management of their assigned cases, which can run from 20-30, mostly fact-intensive civil rights cases. Here are the detailed requirements, though not an exhaustive list:

Paralegals are responsible for the management of all of their assigned cases.

Paralegals are responsible for moving their assigned cases efficiently and as quickly as possible. They are responsible not only for their enumerated tasks and responsibilities, but for following up on those tasks, particularly when the ball is in someone else’s court.

Applicants will be required to submit a video statement and complete a comprehensive skills assessment test.

Specific responsibilities of a paralegal:

1. Management of all assigned cases, and making sure each of their assigned cases is moving forward, and that nothing falls through the cracks.
2. Knowing all case deadlines and ensuring that attorneys and other necessary staff are aware of deadlines.
3. Keeping all SB matters updated in every respect, including fact discovery deadlines, case, court, and counsel information.
4. Documenting all case-related emails in Memos.
5. Calendaring all case-related events.
6. Scheduling depositions, calls, meetings, and other case-related events.
7. Ordering court reporters.
8. Drafting and sending deposition notices.
9. Opening cases in state and federal courts.
10. Drafting and filing correspondence, motions, complaints, appearances, and other filings, subject to attorney review.
11. Drafting discovery requests and responses, subject to attorney review.
12. Generating production.
13. Creating Bates indexes as soon as we send and receive production materials.
The format for our Bates indexes: first, it should be formatted in landscape rather than portrait mode; second, it should have four columns as follows: Bates range, Document title, document description, and date produced.
14. Communicating and working with clients to draft initial discovery responses.
15. Review and update all relevant status charts weekly.
16. Updating each client every three weeks, and when specific developments arise that require client contact.

18. Delete/reschedule calendar entries AS SOON AS a scheduled event has been canceled or rescheduled, or a court event has been stricken or rescheduled. The Paralegal assigned to the case is responsible for deleting and/or rescheduling a calendar entry in accordance with a court order. Whatever tea ---------- mber is involved in canceling and/or rescheduling any other event is responsible for reflecting the change on the calendar.
19. Adding a Note to all assigned matters with the DOI, Fact Discovery Deadline, Agency Involved, and a brief description of the matter. Also, please add the Location of I ---------- (LOI) right under the DOI -- which would be the address and the city. Include the state, if not IL.
20. Log all discoveries in the Discovery Details tab in the matter.
21. Delete future calendar entries AS SOON AS a case is settled or the event is canceled or rescheduled.
22. Paralegals are responsible for starting a text message thread in RingCentral with the client. In addition to the client, the paralegal must include the following tea ---------- mbers in the thread:
