JOB OVERVIEW

This job is open to people with Electrical Engineering training. Both males and females of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

We are seeking an Electrical Hardware Engineer to design and develop hardware upgrades for the Xerxes Pi platform and Xerxes for Jetson Nano. You will be responsible for creating robust, production-ready PCB designs using KiCad, with a focus on embedded computing, networking, and peripheral integration for home lab and edge AI systems.

This role involves working closely with compute module-based systems (CM4/CM5 and Jetson Nano variants), improving board-level functionality, and designing reliable expansion and upgrade paths for power, networking, and high-speed peripheral interfaces.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design and iterate PCB hardware using KiCad for embedded systems and compute modules
- Develop hardware upgrades for Xerxes Pi and Xerxes Jetson Nano platforms
- Design and implement Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions for reliable device powering
- Work with I2C and I2S buses for sensor, audio, and peripheral integration
- Engineer and validate RJ45 Ethernet interfaces including signal integrity considerations
- Collaborate on board bring-up, testing, debugging, and hardware validation
- Support integration of storage, networking, and AI accelerator peripherals
- Produce manufacturing-ready schematics, layouts, and documentation

Required Skills & Experience:

- Strong experience with KiCad for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Solid understanding of PoE standards and practical implementation
- Experience working with I2C and I2S communication protocols
- Knowledge of Ethernet hardware design, including RJ45 magnetics and routing
- Familiarity with embedded Linux hardware platforms (Raspberry Pi CM4/CM5 or similar)
- Experience designing mixed-signal PCBs and high-speed digital interfaces
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues from prototype to production

Nice to Have:

- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson platforms
- Background in compute module carrier board design
- Familiarity with PCIe, USB 3.0, or M.2 integration
- Experience designing for thermal constraints in compact systems

This role is ideal for an engineer passionate about embedded systems, edge computing, and building scalable hardware platforms for advanced home lab and AI workloads.
