Job Summary
The Estimating Manager is responsible for building a reliable, scalable estimating function that helps the company respond quickly to opportunities while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and strong bid quality.
This role is not just responsible for producing takeoffs. It owns the estimating process from bid intake through preconstruction coordination, including resource planning, quote collection, bid tracking, quality review, and process improvement. The role should strengthen the company’s ability to handle more opportunities without sacrificing accuracy or overloading operating teams.
The right person will combine electrical estimating judgment, strong process discipline, and practical use of software and AI tools to improve speed, visibility, and output quality.
Key Responsibilities
1. Estimating Operations
- Lead the day-to-day estimating workflow, including bid intake, takeoff coordination, estimate development, and bid-status tracking.
- Ensure bid packages and specifications are reviewed quickly and routed to the right internal or external estimating resources.
-Maintain visibility on active bids, priorities, deadlines, and handoffs.
2. Quality, Accuracy, and Preconstruction Support
- Review estimates and takeoffs for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with scope before submission.
- Coordinate RFIs, clarifications, subcontractor pricing, and material quotes needed to support sound bid submission.
- Support post-award preconstruction documentation, including submittals and related handoff materials, where needed.
3. System Building and Capacity Growth
- Build and improve the estimating system, including playbooks, templates, workflows, and use of outside estimating support when appropriate.
- Increase estimating throughput in a controlled way by improving process, resource coordination, and tool usage.
- Identify practical opportunities to use software and AI tools to reduce manual work, improve consistency, and strengthen estimating output.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5+ years of construction estimating experience, with meaningful experience in electrical estimating or electrical takeoffs.
- Strong ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and electrical plans and translate them into organized, accurate takeoffs and pricing support.
- Demonstrated experience using at least one major digital takeoff or estimating platform effectively; ability to learn additional tools quickly.
- Strong working proficiency in Excel and document management in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience coordinating quotes, bid information, and estimating deliverables across multiple projects at the same time.
- Clear written and verbal English communication suitable for working with US-based leadership, vendors, and supply houses.
- Self-directed and dependable in a remote work environment with time-sensitive deliverables.
- Practical working knowledge of AI tools for business use, including using them to improve speed, organization, drafting, research support, or workflow quality.
- Strong English proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for a US-based electrical contractor, general contractor, or construction services firm.
- Experience helping build or improve estimating processes, templates, or SOPs.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar takeoff and markup tools.
- Experience working with outsourced estimating support or specialized consultants.
- Degree or formal training in construction, engineering, or a related field.
