Job Title: Electronics Engineer / PCB Designer (Kicad) – Automated USB-C Test Fixture
Hours: Part-Time / Flexible
Location: Remote
About the Project:
We are a hardware startup looking for a talented Electronics Engineer to join us as our second technical hire. We are looking for a highly organized individual who can execute a technical vision and grow with the company.
The core project is to design a "Pass/Fail" Automated Testing PCB. This board will plug directly into our main product via a USB-C connector to electrically verify soldering joints, check for shorts, and ensure data/power line continuity.
What You Will Do:
- Design & Schematic: Create a complete PCB design in Kicad. The design will likely feature a modern microcontroller (ESP32) acting as the host to test the target device via USB-C.
- Planning: Take ownership of the project by creating a concrete logical plan (step-by-step testing protocol) and a timeline.
- Documentation: Organize and document your design process to ensure the system is clear and maintainable.
- Collaboration: Participate in regular video calls with the CEO (who designed the main product) to review schematics, discuss USB-C pinout configurations, and solve routing challenges.
- Handoff: Prepare final production files (Gerbers, BOM, Pick & Place). Note: We can handle the manufacturing, assembly, and physical testing if needed.
Requirements:
- Kicad Expertise: You must be highly proficient in Kicad and able to show existing designs.
- Excellent English: Clear verbal and written communication is essential for technical meetings.
- Technical Skill: Strong understanding of PCB layout, USB-C standards/pinouts, and modern microcontrollers (ESP32).
- Organized: You are self-disciplined and good at documenting your work without needing micromanagement.
Benefits & Work Culture:
- Flexible Schedule: We estimate the workload to be roughly 2–3 hours daily to meet our schedule. As long as you deliver quality work and attend scheduled calls, you manage your own hours. (We are open to candidates who have other clients, provided this project receives the necessary focus).
- Growth Potential: As the second hire, you will play a crucial role in the company's future engineering efforts.
- Peer Collaboration: Work directly with a technical CEO who understands PCB design and values high-quality engineering.
