We are launching a globally distributed, bilingual (English/Spanish) magazine in partnership with a Rotary Club in Newport Beach, California. Our publication covers environmental stewardship, ocean conservation, climate action, water access, and community service worldwide — publishing two coordinated editions starting July 2026.
We are looking for a talented, detail-obsessed editor with a sharp narrative voice and a love for impactful storytelling. This is a part-time, hourly, remote role based in the Philippines.
COMPENSATION: $5–$8 per hour depending on experience. Hours tracked and paid weekly. Estimated 10-20 hours per week.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Edit and refine articles, features, profiles, and column submissions from contributors worldwide
- Uphold and evolve the magazine's editorial voice — clear, warm, inspiring, and globally minded
- Write and edit section headers, callout boxes, captions, and pull quotes
- Proofread all content before layout — grammar, style, factual accuracy, and tone
- Develop and maintain the magazine's editorial style guide
- Work with the bilingual editor to review Spanish-language content for flow and accuracy
- Assist in coordinating content for 30+ recurring sections covering climate, ocean health, water access, and women's leadership
- Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Grammarly) to accelerate editing cycles while preserving the human voice
YOU ARE:
- An exceptional writer and editor in English — your prose is clear, precise, and alive
- A storyteller who can make environmental data, field reports, and project updates genuinely compelling
- Rigorous about grammar, punctuation, and style — you notice things others miss
- Comfortable managing multiple content streams simultaneously
- Curious about global affairs, environmental issues, and community-driven change
REQUIREMENTS:
- Exceptional written English — native or near-native proficiency
- 2–4 years of editorial experience in journalism, publishing, or professional communications
- Portfolio of edited or written work — articles, magazine features, reports, or similar
- Ability to meet deadlines reliably in a remote, distributed team
- Proficiency with Google Docs and collaborative editing workflows
- Reliable high-speed internet and a dedicated work environment
PREFERRED:
- Experience with magazine or long-form publication editing
- Background in environmental journalism, nonprofit communications, or international development
- Familiarity with InDesign or Canva
- Experience with AI editing tools (Claude, Grammarly Business)
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Fully remote — work from home
- Flexible hours with occasional overlap to US Pacific Time
- A meaningful editorial role with real international visibility and impact
- Opportunity to grow into a Managing Editor role as the publication scales
TO APPLY: Please send your resume, a cover letter describing your editorial experience, and two or three writing or editing samples (published or unpublished).
