About Us
At Operator, we’re on a mission to make sure small businesses never miss another valuable call.
From tradespeople on the job, to busy salon owners, our AI voice answering service helps turn missed calls into booked jobs and happy customers—24/7. We’re early-stage, product-driven, and moving fast. You’ll be joining at a formative time, shaping how thousands of people interact with our brand and product for the very first time.
Job Description
We’re looking for a creative designer to help bring Operator to life across web, product, and marketing touchpoints.
This is a remote, part-time freelance role with long-term potential. You’ll work directly with the technical founder to shape and polish the brand across landing pages, product mockups, social graphics, sales materials and more.
You’ll translate rough sketches, copy, and ideas into clean, effective, and on-brand visuals that drive both trust and conversion. If you enjoy owning design decisions, working autonomously, and creating things that get shipped fast—this is your kind of role.
We’re building a cohesive visual identity from the ground up — your fingerprints will be all over our brand as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the visual design of core marketing pages—landing, feature, pricing, etc.—from concept to completion.
- Design clean, intuitive UI mockups to showcase new features and user flows.
- Create compelling assets for sales collateral, advertisements, social media and other marketing needs.
- Maintain brand consistency across all touchpoints while continuously evolving the visual language.
- Work with fast feedback cycles in a lean, async-friendly team.
Requirements
- A portfolio that shows strong visual design skills, especially in web and product contexts (e.g., landing pages, product UI, marketing materials). We’re open to applicants with non-traditional backgrounds, self-taught designers, and career changers — if your portfolio shows great work, that’s what matters most.
- Great eye for layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and mobile responsiveness.
- Self-directed and communicative — you can run with a brief and ask the right clarifying questions.
If you don’t meet every single requirement but think you’d be great at this, we still want to hear from you. We value sharp thinking, design taste, and resourcefulness above formal credentials.
Desirable
- Experience optimising for conversion — think landing pages that convert, not just look good.
- Proficiency with Figma and Framer
- Comfort working in ambiguous environments and shaping visual identity from scratch.
- Motion/animation skills
Work Environment
- Remote: Work from anywhere.
- Flexible Hours: Manage your own time and meet deadlines your way.
- Freelance/Contract: Freedom and autonomy, with the potential to grow into a larger role.
- We’re timezone flexible. Async work is possible.
How to Apply
If this sounds like your kind of role, we’d love to hear from you.
Please submit:
- A short cover letter. Do not send a generic cover letter. Instead, write 2–3 sentences telling us what excites you about the role.
- 3 relevant portfolio pieces
Bonus points if you include a quick note on what AI tool you've been using lately and what you would change if you were its head designer.
