As a Real Estate Data Market Research Intern, you will support the creation of professional, data-driven reports on the Bay Area residential housing market. These reports help inform our investment strategy, client communications, and public-facing presentations.
You will gather, analyze, and synthesize real estate and economic data into structured reports following our established format. Your work will be used by investors, homebuyers, and internal stakeholders to guide strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection
Pull monthly and quarterly data from sources such as:
Redfin, Zillow,
California Association of Realtors (CAR)
U.S. Census Bureau, BLS, FRED, CA EDD
MacroTrends, Nasdaq, Investopedia
Local MLS dashboards
Bay Area county websites and planning departments
ATTOM
Track market activity by city, ZIP code, and county (Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, etc.)
Report Compilation
Use the provided market report template to fill in:
Median home prices
Sales volume and inventory
Days on market (DOM)
Affordability indices and mortgage rates
Submarket comparisons (e.g., Cupertino vs. Fremont)
Buyer behavior and economic context (stock market, tech jobs, interest rates)
Homeowners demographic data (race, income, age etc)
New developments vs old developments
Primary residence vs investment property
What do homeowner’s equity look like
Zoom in analysis (start from big picture, zoom into local markets)
Look for actionable data: For ex. Palo Alto breaking price trend
Days to close, days on market
Data Analysis
Identify key takeaways from the data
Interpret YoY and MoM changes
Spot price or volume trends and write brief commentary
Highlight economic indicators relevant to real estate
Presentation Formatting
Format reports in:
Google Docs or Word (for formal reports)
Google Slides or Canva (for presentations)
Ensure clean, professional formatting
Embed relevant charts or maps where needed
Quality Control
Verify the accuracy of sources
Maintain a reference list of all links and citations
Double-check figures for consistency with historical data
Tools You'll Use
Google Sheets or Excel (for calculations and trend tables)
Google Docs or Notion (for written reports)
Canva or Google Slides (for visual presentation)

Deliverables
Each week (or biweekly), you will produce:
One full-length market report (6–10 pages) using the standard template
One presentation summary (6–8 slides) for internal/external meetings
Raw data sheet showing your collected metrics for transparency
Optional: Visual chart assets to use in social media posts or seminars

Preferred Skills
Strong research skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with Bay Area geography and real estate markets
Experience with Excel, data visualization, and Google Suite
