JOB OVERVIEW

I'm looking for an editor for videos/reels (for social) who can make someone stop scrolling and feel something in the first two seconds, then stay for the whole story.

Who you'd be working with

I'm the founder of a national nonprofit at the intersection of music, fandom, and youth mental health. We believe fan communities keep young people alive, and we build campaigns and tools that prove it. Right now we're running a national campaign with a record label, an artist, and a major retailer. I also have a creative studio on the side (who creates content for the organization as well) which is another avenue for creating content to drive new clients to our account.

Both are founder-led, which means I'm the face on camera. Your job is to make me look and sound like the most compelling version of that so we can bring in visibility to the nonprofit, as well as attract new clients/partners for our creative studio.

What you'd actually do
>> Take raw footage (i.e mostly me talking to camera, plus b-roll) and turn it into reels people watch to the end and share. For this role, you are not just trimming clips. I am looking for someone to have instincts for hooks, pacing, and what makes someone stay to the end to boost engagement online.
>> Edit reels from provided raw footage
>> Sharpen the on-screen text hooks that I write
>> Add captions, b-roll, light sound design, and clean cuts for retention
>> Design strong cover frames so the grid looks intentional
>> Reformat reels for Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn/Shorts
>> Keep files and versions organized so nothing gets lost

___

The style I'm going for (important! bc I want our styles to align):
>> Think "yapping storytelling" with a cinematic finish. Intimate and real, like I'm talking to one person, but elevated. The references I'll share lean warm, editorial, and grounded (premium but personal, never glossy-corporate and never sloppy)

Specifically:
>> Hooks that are honest, not bait. The first line earns the watch by being true and specific, not by tricking anyone. I don't do "you won't believe." I do "I left a six-figure title two weeks ago and I keep waiting to feel reckless about it."
>> Editorial text treatment. Clean serif headlines with handwritten-style annotations layered in. Magazine, not ---------- .
>> Readable, styled captions. Word-by-word or phrase highlights, on-brand, easy to follow with sound off.
>> Cinematic touches on intimate footage. B-roll, well-timed cuts, subtle sound effects, a little motion. Enough polish to feel considered, not so much it feels staged.

Pacing for retention and an instinct for what's working in short-form now, without chasing every trend into the ground.

___

You're probably a fit if you
>> Are fluent in CapCut, Premiere, and/or After Effects (or can show me equivalent work)
>> Have a real eye for typography and motion text
>> Can write or punch up a hook, not just cut to one
>> Have taste that matches the references I'll send
>> Hit deadlines and communicate like a pro
>> Bonus: motion graphics, thumbnail/cover design, and a genuine interest in mental health, music, or brand culture. People who care about the mission make better work here.

I want a creative partner and collaborator, ideally someone who is looking for somewhere to grow longer term for a good cause with an exceptional (Fil-AM!) team.

___

To apply, please reply to this job post with the following:

>> You CV + your portfolio, or 2–3 reels you edited (ideally social first, not just product or wedding cuts)
>> For any of your case studies that you share, tell me what you did (Did you write the hook? The captions? The sound design?)
>> Your rate (in UDS) and availability
