Cleanup Bookkeeper
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Cleanup Bookkeeper to join our growing accounting and CFO services firm. This role is responsible for supporting client bookkeeping cleanup projects under the direction of a Cleanup Specialist. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, enjoys organizing and correcting financial records, and takes pride in creating accurate, reliable accounting data that helps clients make informed business decisions.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys investigative accounting work, problem-solving, and building repeatable processes while working with a variety of real estate and entrepreneurial clients.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Cleanup Support
• Maintain and monitor bank and credit card feeds within QuickBooks Online and other accounting platforms.
• Review and categorize transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment.
• Manage and resolve uncategorized and exception transactions.
• Assist with historical bookkeeping cleanup projects and account reconciliations.
• Identify bookkeeping discrepancies and escalate complex issues to the Cleanup Specialist.
• Support month-end cleanup and accounting standardization efforts.
Client Accounting Support
• Monitor and manage Ask My Accountant (AMA) transactions and ensure timely resolution.
• Follow established cleanup procedures and documentation standards.
• Maintain accurate records of project progress and completion milestones.
• Update and maintain client cleanup progress trackers and internal workflow systems.
• Communicate findings, questions, and project updates to the Cleanup Specialist.
Documentation & Deliverables
• Prepare end-product workbooks summarizing cleanup work completed for each client.
• Create and maintain client-specific bookkeeping policies and procedures.
• Document accounting processes and recommendations for ongoing maintenance.
• Ensure all deliverables meet firm quality standards and are completed on schedule.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Experience working with bookkeeping cleanup or catch-up accounting projects.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred
• Public accounting, CAS (Client Accounting Services), or outsourced accounting experience.
• Experience supporting real estate investors, entrepreneurs, or small businesses.
• Knowledge of bookkeeping workflow and project management systems.
• Experience creating accounting process documentation and SOPs.
