The Design Studies Institute (DSI) is dedicated to training and empowering the next generation of designers to lead within the design field. Through teaching and research, DSI provides educational opportunities that prepare designers for current professions while cultivating creative, critical, and socially responsible designers for the future.
position overview

We are seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Design Studies to join our faculty. This position is integral to our commitment to both student success and research excellence. This position will primarily supervise Doctor of Design dissertations as a committee chair and may teach within the Doctor of Design and/or Master of Design programs.

Key Responsibilities
Mentor doctoral students one-on-one helping them achieve dissertation milestones with one of our lab areas:
Caribbean Design History & Visual Culture Lab
Computational & Algorithmically-Enabled Design Lab
Design for Learning Experiences Lab
Design for Wellness Lab
Oversee doctoral dissertation research, committee formation, and evaluation of doctoral program milestones.
Monitor curricula to ensure compliance with DSI and accrediting body standards.
Participate in course and curriculum evaluations and audits.
Teach masters and/or doctoral courses.
Respond to all student emails and inquiries within 24 hours.
Evaluate all assessments with substantive qualitative and quantitative feedback.
Conduct proactive and reactive outreach to students via email, phone, and video conferencing.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
An earned doctoral degree or advanced doctoral candidacy with 5+ years of professional design expertise
Minimum Qualifications for Associate Professor:
An earned doctoral degree and 5+ years of professional design expertise with an established teaching, research, and service agenda.

Preferred Qualifications
Substantial college teaching experience (5+ years preferred) in online modalities with graduate students.
Strong record of professional practice in design.
Active engagement in design research and scholarship.
