Hours: Full-time, aligned with 8:00am - 5:00pm Eastern Time
Reports to: Sales / Technical Leadership
Compensation: $4-$8 per hour (based on experience)

-About Us

The FSW Group that is inclusive of Welsford and Valveman, is a family-owned, solution-focused distributor of valves and instrumentation with over 60 years of experience in the industrial, sanitary, and high-purity markets. We pride ourselves on expert service, high responsiveness, and a collaborative, supportive team culture.

-Position Summary

Our sales teams win by being fast, accurate, and consultative. The Applications Engineer is the technical backbone - you’ll collect the right process data, size/select/specify the right product, and help our team deliver the best customer experience in the valve and instrumentation space.

-Key Responsibilities

Technical intake: Receive information from the sales engineer around application details. (fluid, pressure/temperature, Cv/flow, materials, end connections, shutoff class, actuation, codes/standards, cleanliness requirements, etc.)

Product selection & specification: Recommend and specify the right solution across:

control valves, regulators, actuated valves, ball/butterfly/diaphragm valves

sanitary/high-purity valves and components

steam specialties (traps, PRVs, condensate) and safety relief (as applicable)

instrumentation tied to the application (basic accessories, gauges/transmitters where relevant)

Sizing & documentation: Perform or support sizing (as applicable), build clean submittals, and document assumptions clearly.

Expert for a few selected manufacturers (e.g. Jordan Valves, Steriflow)

Customer coordination: Work with customers as needed for technical specifications

Vendor coordination: Work with manufacturers/factories for technical confirmations, lead times, and quote support.

Sales enablement: Provide short, confident technical recommendations that help sales move faster (email-ready summaries).

Quality & high accuracy: Maintain clean records in our systems and to avoid doing re-quotes (product notes, selections, revisions, and key application data).

To generate quotes within the Prophet21 system for the outside sales team

Continuous learning: Become fluent in our line card and standard selection approach; build repeatable “playbooks” for common applications.

- Success Metrics

Strong product knowledge and selection skills across the FSW Group offering - especially control valves and regulators, with the ability to size, specify, and select the correct solution for the application.

Fast cycle time from inquiry ? recommended solution, with quick action and responsiveness to customer requests.

High accuracy (fewer re-quotes/returns/technical corrections) driven by clear, complete application data captured up front.

Strong vendor responsiveness, including timely follow-up and documented technical confirmations.

Consistent, professional write-ups the sales team can send directly to customers.

Team-first mindset - collaborative, reliable, and consistently living the company’s core values in a way that makes the sales team’s job easier.

- Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Chemical/Industrial) or equivalent technical experience with strong valve/process aptitude

3+ years in valves/instrumentation/process equipment or proven applications/technical sales support experience

Ability to read/interpret P&IDs, datasheets, specifications, IOMs

Strong written English - able to produce clean, customer-ready summaries

Highly organized: you follow a process, document assumptions, and close the loop

- Nice to have

Control valve/regulator sizing familiarity (or eagerness to learn quickly)

Experience supporting pharma, food & beverage, OEM skids, utilities, or power

CRM/ERP experience (Pipedrive, QuickBooks, BigCommerce, or similar)

Familiarity with sanitary/high-purity standards and materials

- Tools & work style

Remote-first collaboration (email/chat/video) with U.S.-based teams

Comfortable working with structured templates and SOPs

Security-minded: follows strong password/device hygiene and company data practices
